Anatomies of places, memories, amnesias, fantasies: in the paintings and sculptures of Victoria Stoian (Chișinău, Moldova, 1987), every mark is a trace of identity and an opportunity for understanding.

The practice of the artist—a graduate of the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti in Turin with a degree in Painting and Sculpture—began as a distant dialogue with her country of origin, Moldova, evoking the landscapes of her childhood and family, as well as historical and natural traumas. It then evolved into a broader reflection on memory, a sense of belonging, and the exploration of the self.

Organic forms, abstractions, and accumulations of color thus compose unstable territories in which depth—detached from any perspective—arises through stratification and chromatic intensity, alternating between diaphanous fields and sudden condensations. The canvas thus takes shape as a field of forces that, on the one hand, preserves the archive of memory (personal, of individual people, and of the world), and on the other, continually reactivates its generative potential, as if it were living matter.
