Miriam Marafioti

Rather than simply documenting reality, Miriam Marafioti’s painting explores the tensions and layers that permeate the contemporary landscape. Abandoned factories, derelict buildings, overpasses, and dilapidated bridges are the subjects of her work, which focuses on the boundary between the city, industry, and nature. Born in Genoa in 1996 and based in Turin—two cities united by an industrial past and the profound changes that have reshaped their character—the artist observes the landscape as an evolving organism, focusing on those places where urban elements, industrial buildings, and vegetation coexist in a precarious balance.

Her canvases depict suspended scenes in which alienating atmospheres—achieved by reworking digital images and through the use of contrasting, sometimes unsettling colors—alter the perception of space, amplifying the sense of abandonment and the desire to preserve its memory. Miriam Marafioti graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and the Accademia Albertina in Turin.
